Direct solar-to-EV charging

Plug cars straight
into the sun.

Indergy builds charging points that connect solar canopies directly to electric vehicles. No electricity grid. No external storage. Energy flows from the sun into the car's battery — and nowhere else.

A long solar carport at sunset, glowing lines running from its panels down the posts to charge points, each charging an electric car parked beneath.

How it works

Three parts. One straight line.

A solar canopy over the parking spot, power electronics that follow the sun's output, and a charge point that hands that power to the car as it comes.

  1. 01

    Canopy over the parking spot

Solar modules are mounted above existing parking spaces. The ground underneath stays exactly as it was — and the parked car gets a roof.

  2. 02

    Direct conversion

Power electronics take the array's DC output and match it to what the battery can accept right now. Nothing is buffered, nothing is exported.

  3. 03

    Into the battery

The car charges with whatever the sun is delivering, following the curve of the day. The car's own battery is the only storage in the system.

Why direct

What the grid detour costs us

Direct solar-to-EV has advantages that traditional grid-connected charge points simply cannot offer.

Environment

Parking spots are among the best locations for solar generation. A canopy requires no new soil sealing, no modification of natural land, and rarely disturbs anyone. Parked cars get shade and shelter for free.

Society

Grid-independent generation can become an important pillar for security of energy supply. If there is a blackout in the grid, EVs can still be charged — the sun does not go offline with the substation.

Economics

European grids are overloaded. Approval for a grid connection has long lead times, and the cost of a grid upgrade can overturn a charge point's financial viability. Direct solar-to-EV side-steps those issues entirely.

Side by side

Grid-connected vs. Indergy

Grid-connected charge point

  • Waits on grid connection approval
  • Exposed to grid upgrade costs
  • Goes offline during a blackout
  • Charges from whatever the grid mix is

Indergy direct solar-to-EV

  • No grid connection to apply for
  • No grid upgrade in the business case
  • Keeps charging when the grid is down
  • Built over parking that already exists
  • Charges from sunlight, directly
